DirecTV Adds Two HD Local Channels in Columbus, Ohio

DirecTV has launched two local high-definition channels to its programming lineup in Columbus, OH. The satcaster has added WOSU-TV and WWHO to the subscribers in Columbus.

WWHO – owned and operated by LIN TV Corporation is the Columbus, Ohio television affiliate for The CW television network. WWHO is licensed to Chillicothe, though it operates out of a facility in Columbus with its transmitter located in Williamsport, halfway between Columbus and Chillicothe.

WOSU TV – serving extreme southern Ohio and the western edge of the Huntington-Charleston, West Virginia market area is located in Columbus, Ohio, affiliated with the Public Broadcasting Service. The station’s signal covers most of central Ohio. It is owned by Ohio State University, and operates full-time satellite WPBO-TV in Portsmouth, Ohio.

DirecTV Local HD Channels Available in Roanoke-Lynchburg, Virginia Markets

DirecTV has launched local high-definition programming to its subscribers in the Roanoke-Lynchburg, Virginia market area. DirecTV is now offering local HD channels in 127 markets, representing more than 89 percent of U.S. TV households. Following are the local HD broadcast networks available in Roanoke-Lynchburg:

WFXR/FOX

WSLS/NBC and

WBRA/PBS

DirecTV subscribers must have an H20 or H21 HD receiver or an HR20 or HR21 DIRECTV Plus HD DVR and a Ka/Ku band dish to receive these local HD programming. DirecTV offers local HD channels in standard and high-definition in 151 television markets.

DirecTV To Deliver Live NFL Games on iPhone For ‘SuperFan’ Subscribers

DirecTV subscribers will be treated with NFL Sunday games on an iPhone starting from Sunday, Sept. 13. The leading satellite provider has unveiled its plans to launch its premium sports package Sunday Ticket Superfan service on iPhone to receive NFL games through both 3G and WiFi networks.

For a DirecTV customer with a NFL Sunday Ticket subscription this application comes with an upgrade to a “SuperFan” pack for a $100. NFL games will be subject to local blackout restrictions.

DirecTV Ends 2009 Golf Coverage With The Open Championship Coverage in HD

DirecTV after completing 2009 the U.S. Open Championship coverage in June will end the golf coverage this year with “The Open Championship” coverage on July 16 and 17. DirecTV will bring the 138th Open Championship on four-screens-in-one HD Mix channel to treat the golf fans with “The British Open Experience.”

DirecTV subscribers will be presented with high-definition coverage on three channels and also on TNT’s live coverage of the Open’s first two rounds.
DirecTV’s Mix Channel viewers will see the home network channel and three additional channels:
Featured Holes – Devoted exclusively to a trio of Turnberry’s most historic and renowned holes 9, 10 and 11, over the tournament’s first two rounds.

18th Hole – May be the most famous among the 7,204 yards of winding links at Turnberry, the 18th hole has been lengthened by 29 yards with a third bunker added at driving distance, along with two bunkers protecting the approach.

Highlights Channel – Offers updating highlights throughout the day, plus interviews with the top golfers as they start or finish their rounds.

Hispanic Children’s Television Network Sorpresa! Launches on DirecTV

Mega TV has launched Hispanic children’s television network Sorpresa! on DirecTV on Saturday, Feb.7. Sorpresa! will stretch its viewer base from its existing 1.1 million subscribers through DirecTV. The preschool programming block is broadcast on Mega TV on Saturdays and Sundays at 10:00 AM EST.

DirecTV To Launch Local HD Channels in Tri-Cities

DirecTV has announced that local high-definition programming channels will be offered to the subscribers in the Tri-Cities Tenn.-Va., market beginning Friday, Jan. 30. Subscribers will have option to view the Super Bowl XLIII in high-definition on WCYB/NBC. DirecTV will also be offering following local HD broadcast channels:

DirecTV To Offer Obama’s Historic Inaugural on ‘Inauguration Mix Channel’

DirecTV has made arrangements to cover the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th president of the United States on Jan. 20. DirecTV will come up with interactive Mix Channel with eight channels on a single screen to deliver the subscribers with the live coverage offered by the news channels.

DirecTV has announced that The 2009 Inauguration Mix channel will replace the news mix channels on channel 102 and 352 and the channel offered in high-definition. The 2009 Inauguration Mix channel will be available from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM ET.

DirecTV Launches Local HD in Greenville-New Bern, North Carolina

DirecTV To Launch The MLB Network HD on New Year Day

DirecTV will bring The MLB Network to its subscribers on the New Year day in high-definition. Major League Baseball owned sports network will be launched on January 1, 2009 and will be available to 50 million homes on the launch day. Tony Petitti, President of the network has said that along with DirecTV, Cox Communications, Comcast, Time Warner and Verizon are to carry the network.

The MLB Network has broadcast rights to bring 26 regular games in 2009 season on Thursdays and will also televise the 2009 World Baseball Classic, studio programming and international and development league games.
