WWE’s Vince McMahon Plans To Launch A New Channel

American professional wrestler, promoter and the Chairman of the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Vince McMahon has expressed his desire to launch a new channel. The new channel will be on air with in two years. There is no news about carriage deals with any of satellite or cable operators.

WWE plans to launch on cable’s basic tier as it has enough programming on Classics on Demand and also online streaming WWEClassics.com. WWE has also own the video libraries of yester year World Championship Wrestling, Extreme Championship Wrestling, World Class Championship Wrestling, Smokey Mountain Wrestling, Stampede Wrestling and Championship Wrestling from Florida that would give them many more avenues for programming.

McMahon has said, “The new channel will offer a companion to currently available content rather than a replacement for it, similar to the NFL Network, Golf Channel and Tennis Channel, all of which see the main events from those sports typically licensed to other networks. Of course, having its own network will increase WWE’s leverage in negotiations with those partners.”
